Alicia Menendez and the Likeability Trap

Are you feeling stuck or is your to-do list growing? We start this episode with some strategies to tackle those things you keep putting off.

Next, we revisit our conversation with journalist Alicia Menendez discussing her book, “The Likeability Trap: How to Break Free and Succeed as You Are.” Alicia Menendez is an MSNBC anchor, she’s a contributing editor at Bustle, and the host of the Latina to Latina podcast. Alicia spoke to us earlier during an event we hosted to mark Women’s History Month and to explore some of the barriers that women continue to face like racial and gender bias, and in many cases, homophobia.

One tool we discuss on this episode is the Eisenhower matrix. You're going to draw a quadrant and each of your four boxes will have one of these labels:

  • “Important” and “Urgent”

  • “Not Important” and “Urgent”

  • “Important”and “Not Urgent”

  • “Not Important” and “Not Urgent”

Examine your to-do list and categorize each task under the corresponding box. You want to prioritize anything you’ve deemed urgent and important first and get to these items right away.

Next, you prioritize urgent but not important, followed by important and not urgent. You’ll want to make sure you make the time for the “Important”and “Not Urgent”. Here is a helpful visual:

We hope this tool is helpful to you. Listen to the full episode for more ideas.
