I thought early in my career that I needed to suppress my ethnicity and my true-self. I worked hard to create what I thought would be an acceptable workplace identity

And in the thick of awfulness of learning to be a Soldier in the snow, I asked myself why I was putting myself through all of that for a country that didn’t care about me—where I didn’t belong.

I grew up completely bilingual. At home we spoke English and Spanish fluently, we celebrated both Mexican and American holidays, we spent vacations in the States with my uncles and their families (Florida), but the rest of the year in Mexico City.
